Founded in 1924 as Western New York Motor Lines, Blue Bus Lines began trading under that name soon after. It was the
oldest component of the carriers that would form what would become Empire Trailways, a carrier that would serve Western New
York for 70 years before being acquired and reorganized as New York Trailways. Blue Bus had its origins in the small city
of Batavia,NY, which lies approximately halfway between Rochester and Buffalo and Max Cowan, the company's founder felt that
this location would be a natural for a route serving the three cities and points in between. The company merged with Valley
Bus Lines in the late 1950s, forming Blue Valley Bus Lines and after joining the National Trailways Bus System, traded as
Blue Valley Trailways.
